Doodle Jump

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

Doodle Jump is an amazingly fun game. There are broken platforms that crumble if you jump on them, springs that fly you higher if you jump on them, UFOs that will abduct you unless you shoot them first, black holes that will suck you in if you get too close, and various monsters that you need to kill. Along your way up, you will see markers on the side of the screen indication how high other players of Doodle Jump around the world have managed to get to.

Skee Ball

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

Skee-Ball is celebrating its 100th birthday, but has never felt more modern! With this game you can have some carefree and addictive fun when you’ve got some free time on your hands. With a quick flick, roll the ball up the ramp and into one of the numbered holes for points, tickets, and unlockable achievements. Win enough tickets and go on a shopping-spree for fun prizes like a set of vampire teeth, a Peruvian Flute Band CD, or even a custom ball to use in-game. Over 80 prizes in all.

Jam Packed Christmas 1.0

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

Faster than Monkeys has announced Jam Packed Christmas 1.0, a Christmas Themed version of the highly rated Jam Packed series of logic puzzle games. In this game, you will have to arrange all the presents on each level in Santa’s Sleigh or under a Christmas Tree. The game starts easy, but you will soon be quite challenged trying to get all the different shaped gifts to fit just right. With 50 levels of fun, and more available for download, you will enjoy hours of Holiday fun.

Pandora (Free)

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

If you know anyone with a 16GB iPhone that has absolutely zero music loaded on, you can probably blame Pandora. The ultra-popular music app mimics the functionality of Pandora.com by spinning one artist or song into a never-ending playlist of similar tunes, which you can vote up or down along the way to further tune it to your tastes. To our amazement, it even works when you tread outside metropolitan 3G coverage into EDGE zones, meaning you really have to head off the beaten path to lose your tunes.

BloodyXmas 1.0

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

Mad Finger Games today announced BloodyXmas 1.0, their new 3D survival hack and slash game for iPhone and iPod Touch. Get ready for the funniest, most fun, and most spectacular Christmas ever. BloodyXmas combines gorgeous cell-shaded 3D graphics with an enhanced survival game experience and an intuitive control scheme, to protect Christmas presents against hordes of zombies, skeletons, witches and other monsters.

Last.FM (Free)

iPhone Power Button Stuck

Much like Pandora, Last.fm makes it simple to stream an impressive collection of music to your iPhone without ever paying a penny. Like those offerings, Last.fm lets you start a station based on an artist, then tweak from there, based on what plays. You can also view artists bios easily, tag them as favorites, find out tour dates, and Last.fm’s social approach to music lets your friends know what music you’re currently enjoying and vice versa.

Crazy Machines

iPhone Power Button Stuck

Those who remember The Incredible Machine for PC will delight in tackling the insane challenges laid out in this uncanny copy for the iPhone – and those who have no idea will get to fall for the concept the first time around. As with the original, you’ll need to use household objects like rockets, candles, bellows and eight balls to build machines that accomplish simple tasks, like getting a basketball in a hoop. Tinker your way through 50 different levels using 70 different game elements, or use the construction kit to just tool around on your own in a sandbox environment!

Unblock Me Free

iPhone Power Button Stuck

The name says it all. Free one orange-colored block from a traffic jam of other blocks by sliding them around to create a path to the exit. The iPhone’s sensitive touchscreen makes a perfect fit for intuitively pushing the blocks around, and after you get the hang of it on the earliest levels, you’ll keep coming back to crack the most complex and difficult upper levels. Though the free version only offers 200 levels (rather than the 2,000 you get on the 99-cent paid version), most casual gamers will find that number plenty challenging.

AppMiner (Free)

iPhone Power Button Stuck

Bitten by the app bug, but starting to cringe when those iTunes purchases hit your credit card? AppMiner lets you dig through the iTunes store with some cash-savvy filters Apple doesn’t offer, like seeing which apps developers have temporarily put on sale or offered for free. You can even watch the premium apps you’ve been holding off on to find out as soon as they go on sale.

Oregon Trail

iPhone Power Button Stuck

Revisit your elementary school computer lab with this remake of Oregon Trail, dysentery and all. Like the original game, you’ll have to balance speed, resources and your party’s health against a dwindling summer and pool of funds to make it in time. The graphics have been imaginatively reworked for the iPhone, but many of the game mechanics remain intact, including the all-important squirrel-hunting sessions. Perfect for escaping the tedium of a long car trip from Missouri to Oregon. Or not.

iTranslate (Free)

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

For French 101 dropouts and those who just need a little extra help abroad, iTranslate can serve as that digital crutch that lets you hobble through a foreign country. It uses Google’s translation software to translate between over a dozen different languages, from the frequently used ones like Spanish and German to more obscure tongues like Catalan and Latvian. As Google Translate vets can attest, it’s not perfect, but something is better than nothing, ja?

EverNote (Free)

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

Evernote’s “Remember Everything” mantra sums up this clever little app quite nicely. It turns your phone into the ultimate digital archive by collecting snapshots, written notes and voice recording, then making them all available with a simple search – from your phone or your PC. Character recognition performed by Evernote actually makes the text in photos you shoot, like a concert poster or business card, into searchable text, no typing needed. For those of us cursed with a decidedly non-elephant-like memory, Evernote makes a killer digital substitute.

Words With Friends

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

The iPhone game Words With Friends is an iPhone version of Scrabble, which is hardly original, but the social integration of the game is done beautifully. You can invite and play with multiple iPhone users at the same time; you can chat within the app; and you can also set up Words With Friends to send you a push notification whenever it’s your turn to make a move. All very Web 2.0 savvy.

Users' favorite feature is a pair of eyeballs that pop up in the corner of the screen, signifying when your opponent is looking at the board. There’s a free version, Words With Friends Free, which is ad-supported, and the $3 version, Words With Friends, is ad-free.

Moron Test

iPhone 3G Repair Screen

Apparently a lot of you enjoy gauging your intelligence (or lack thereof), because The Moron Test received a lot of votes. The app is a series of tests evaluating your ability to understand and follow directions. Touch the ducks from biggest to smallest, for example, or tap the green button twice, then the red button and the blue button. Whenever you mess up, the screen reads “FAIL!” and you can either choose to start over or use a continue. Fun stuff, albeit a jokey method to test one’s smarts. Moron Test is $1 in the App Store.

Pocket God Pocket God

When you’re sitting around bored at work, do you ever fantasize about torturing small creatures for fun? Clearly, a lot of Wired.com readers do, and fortunately their outlet is not their pets or younger siblings, it’s an iPhone app called Pocket God. It’s a free-form scenario of sorts where you assume the role of a sadistic god and you can abuse the living hell out of a group of islanders, known as Pygmies. You can control the environment in countless ways to kill the Pygmies: throw lighting bolts, feed them to the sharks, harpoon them underwater and so on. Politically correct it is not. Pocket God is $1 in the App Store.

Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile Mobile Photoshop

Taking good photos with the iPhone is a challenge, thanks to the gadget’s shoddy camera. Even the superior autofocusing camera on the iPhone 3GS only goes part way to fixing the problem. That’s why Adobe’s Photoshop.com app is a huge help, because it can make you look like a less crummy photographer. The app features very basic editing tools that are extremely easy to apply, such as setting exposure, adding soft focus and adjusting tint. That’s pretty nifty, and the best part is it’s free.

Thirty One Thirty One

A sizable number of you voted on the card game Thirty One. Thirty One is a strategy based card game where you try to get your hand of three cards closest to thirty one. You play against two computer controlled opponents named Jack and Jill. You will have hours of fun trying to out smart them by holding cards you know they want, knocking when you think you have the best hand, and getting a blitz (a hand of exactly 31)!

Thirty One has many great features:
  • Great single player gameplay
  • Two computer controlled opponents
  • Game is saved on exit or when interrupted
